BYU – Balkan Urban Movement was found on 14th February 2000. and was officially registered on 28th February 2001.
It was originaly set up as a youth organization of people from all ex-Yugoslav countries willing to work to overcome all sorts of animosities and prejudices came out from the conflicts in the region. We wanted to show that we were not and we’ll never be the protagonists of the war, only its victims. We want to revitalize good friendships between youth from ex-Yugoslav countries showing that the whole conflict was ridiculous and only a product of stupid politics.
The main focus of BYU work is youth mobility, human rights and its development, promotion of culture and diversities, antiwar activities and promotion of non-violence and struggle against drug addiction and AIDS. Beside that, BYU work on social anxiety problems and sustainable development through the development of sustainable tourism programs as well as on the programs for the development of the local communities through development of small family businesses.
